Getting your store ready for AI shopping

Start with product knowledge, accurate availability and a useful next action—not a promise of instant AI traffic.

Shopping journeys are changing. A useful place for a merchant to start is not a new slogan, but the information a shopper—or software helping that shopper—needs to make a decision.

Getail’s approach brings together three things: product knowledge, local availability, and merchant-controlled shopping actions. The on-site assistant is one way to use that information, not the whole story.

1. Make the product understandable

Choose a small, representative set of products. Check their names, variants, descriptions and policies. Could someone distinguish two similar products without guessing? Are shipping and returns details consistent across your pages?

Useful source content improves the material an assistant can work with. It does not guarantee an accurate answer. Test the questions your shoppers are likely to ask, and review the response against the source.

2. Treat availability as specific data

A product being “in stock” is not enough when a shopper needs a particular variant at a particular location. Review inventory by variant and location. For Merchant Center distribution, confirm the relationship between your Shopify records, Merchant offers and external store codes.

Publishing to a configured channel requires account access, valid mappings and accepted data. It is not a direct connection to every AI agent, and it does not guarantee search placement.

3. Give discovery a safe next step

Help a shopper move from a product question to a supported action. That might mean opening a product, requesting pickup, or reviewing authenticated rewards. Define the confirmation and failure paths before enabling an action.

A pickup request becomes a location-specific inventory hold and draft order only after explicit confirmation. That is not native Shopify pickup fulfillment or a promise that the item is ready for collection. Loyalty redemption uses an authenticated customer’s scoped Shopify discount, not a name or email typed into a conversation.

Start with a testable journey

Getail is being prepared for release with pickup, loyalty and Merchant Center in scope. That is a release plan, not proof that every integration is already available for every store.

Use the setup guide to prepare a test store, or ask about early access. Keep the first test narrow enough that you can verify the source data, the displayed availability and the result of the action yourself.
